I had originally written a rather dry article on how the iPad can help organize your life. But I thought this might be more fun. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Dear iPad,
I know I don’t thank you enough (well, ever) for all you do for me. So let me take this opportunity to try and make it up to you.
I love curling up in bed with you and reading a good e-book, or watching a video. Maybe play some FreeCell or Sudoku or do a jigsaw puzzle. Or check the news or email. Or research some important topic like “Does picking your nose cause Alzheimer’s?” Or let’s face it, all of the above. You are so versatile.
You are often my contact with the outside world. We can watch amusing people, or their pets, do stupid things on YouTube and feel superior. We can email or iMessage family and friends and see what they are up to without having to talk to anyone.
You may not have a phone, but you do have FaceTime. Which is even better because it has video. Just don’t forget to block video. I hate the way I look on that thing. Oh wait, never mind. I deleted that app.
We can listen to audiobooks and podcasts together. Okay, truthfully that is more iPhone’s area than yours. Now don’t be jealous. Technically, you could play audios for me too. It’s just your sound isn’t quite as good… Not that I’m complaining!
And then there’s your camera – no wait, let’s skip that one. Oh, come on. You have to admit the iPhone has you beat there. I still use your camera for screenshots don’t I? You never know when I might want to order that new bedroom set I saw on Wayfair.com.
You help me keep track of my budget so I don’t overspend. I still say that new Elliptical was a good investment, but you were right, you were right. Not at this time.
When it is time to buy something you make it super easy. I never even have to leave the house. Sometimes I don’t even have to enter the credit card number or my personal info. It’s like they already know it. Wait. Did I say you could do that?
You faithfully and consistently remind me of appointments and things I have to do. Sometimes those notifications can get a little annoying, but I know you’re only trying to help.
You help keep me organized in so many ways. You keep my passwords safe. You keep all of my e-books right there at my fingertips in my Kindle or Libby app. And who needs thick instruction manuals cluttering up the place when you provide me with searchable PDFs in the Books app?
Also, who needs all those paper files of medical information or car maintenance visits when I can summarize all the information in my database app (MyStuff2Pro)? Or scan documents into my document storage app (OneNote)?
Who needs to balance a checkbook or figure out what I owe on my credit card when I have a budget app (HomeBudget) to do it for me?
I love your apps, your folders, the way you so easily fit into my hands (Minis are the best!). The way you are always there for me (provided I remembered to charge you).
If only you weren’t quite so expensive and had a longer lifespan… But nobody’s perfect!
I may occasionally step out with the iPhone, but I’ll always come home to you.
Love,
Tracie
This is so cute! I love your writing ability. Your favorite Aunt.
